What is composting?

The things that you can compost take up about a quarter of things that are in a landfill. Landfills are designed for holding garbage, not composting, so most of this compostable material will instead sit and release methane gas into our atmosphere instead of provide nutrients and enrichments for the soil.

How to Compost?

When you compost the right way, there will be no mess or bad smells and it shouldn’t take forever! All you have to do is take some organic materials; such as leaves, stuff from your fridge that is rotten, peelings from vegetables or scraps work as well, and coffee grounds, herbs and tea leaves are really good at adding nutrients (unbleached filters can be used as well) At first, avoid:

You can either put your compost in a 3x3 plot on the ground, or you can get a black plastic container, this helps the compost to heat up more, which will increase the process! It’s recommended that you start of with some organic compost starter to get everything going quicker, which you can add about every other month. If your compost begins to smell or seems to wet, then you need to add more dry leaves and twigs and maybe use a garden fork to move it around. If it seems too dry, then you need to add some vegetables or you can even water it a little. If you compost correctly, it should just smell like good dirt! When your compost is about the texture of some chocolate cake, you can use it to fertilize some potted plants or your garden!
